A Dictation on Drunken Blogging in Russia

So Free-Ho requested more drunken blogging from the motherland, which frankly I'm all for, but there are a few issues that I have to get around. Here they are:
-Getting completely shitfaced. Many problems here. Now of course, your reaction is, "BK, you're in Russia, it's what they do there." Exactly. I have seen my fair share of people kung-fu fighting walls and passed out in doorways. However, I have also seen my fair share of fights, and heard more than enough stories about people getting mugged. Which makes wandering home hammered a bit less appealing. Another problem is the cost of alcohol in Moscow. In St. Petersburg it was cheap, because alcohol vendors make bank in Moscow. The cheapest you can get a cocktail in a bar is 7 bucks. And then you're probably getting a rum and coke. A beer, 5 bucks. And let's not even discuss wine. So why not just buy a bottle of vodka and drink it somewhere? Because we all live in homestays with old Russian ladies. Somehow I don't think, "hey I'm having 10 other American college kids over to get completely wasted and then wreak havok on Moscow" will work. And drinking liquor on the street is illegal. So it's either throw down 50 bucks to get hammered, or 20 bucks to get a semi-decent buzz.
-Getting to a computer. So, if I do get hammered, my thoughts are not on getting home to write on the blog, my thoughts are: "Club." The Metro closes at 1. I go to clubs at 12. The metro opens at 6. Drinks at clubs cost much more than at bars. So I usually get one at most. If I decide to leave early, I have to take a cab, which is for the most part sketch city, and one is advised to be fairly sober. So I either come home at 6 and go to bed, or around 3 after I've sobered up enough to say enough Russian to get myself home.
So that's the jist of it: drunken blogging will be difficult. But I will do my best to overcome these obstacles. So far, I think that the drunken blogging from Stadium has been quite sufficient.

International Year of Stadium 110 - Day 11: The Clock Wall

This post is a little bit overdue, but last week Stadium 110 installed the first two clocks of our official clock wall.

The story of the inspiration for this said clock wall goes something like this:

On the eve of the second day of the international year of Stadium 110 the men of stadium 110 enjoyed a night on the island known as Mai Fete. There was much merriment all around. With a hunger rumbling in their stomachs they returned to their spacious abode and consumed gyro pizzas delivered to their very door by a local establishment specializing in the preparation of pizza pies. Having filled their stomachs, the men of stadium 110 proceeded to conversing on the important items of the day. In the discourse of their conversation a question arose. The question was not unique to the eve, and in fact it had been posited in several different forms during previous conversations. The question was: "I wonder what BK is doing right now." This question led, as it is prone to do, to the question: "What time is it in Moscow." The men of Stadium 110 pondered this question for a significant amount of time before discovering the answer. A short time after this exchange I, your humble narrator, was struck with an idea that could forever vanquish the aforementioned situation. This idea was the world clock wall. It was proposed that on the wall of the Stadium 110 clock room there could be placed two similar looking clocks. However, the time that could be read from the two clocks would not be identical. In fact, the time on one of the clocks would read the local time in Northfield, Minnesota. But the time on the other clock would read the local time in Moscow, Russia. With the local time in Moscow forever displayed on the wall of the common room of Stadium 110, the men of stadium 110 would no longer have to ponder in exasperation the answer to the question: "What time is it in Moscow right now?"

And so, approximately one week ago we procured two clocks and hung them above the likeness of Bob Dylan that is displayed in our room. An image of these said clocks follows as proof of our endeavor.

We hope that our clock wall will bring us closer to our absent roommate.

NEW LIFE!

Kinda funny how this resurrection talk is happening around the easter season, eh?
Hm...
Jesus = reborn. Blog = reborn. Blog = Jesus?
It's okay for me to say that, because I years ago taught Sunday School to lil kids, and because Tim's mom is a minister and will save my soul... hopefully.

ANYWAYS! Here is a quick update on all things Stadium 110. Buckle your seatbelt. Here we go:
  • THE SYNCHRO SHOW OCCURED. And it was a spectacular feat. But it took up a lot of time last week. Because of this, little blogging actually happened. Stay tuned, because we're gonna get it on youtube, and of course here first.
  • THE ALEXANDERS WON THE POLL. To see the final results, once again, stay tuned. Seriously. It's gonna be great.
  • Stadium (and I think its safe to say Carleton) is under siege. From what? SOME UNIDENTIFIED SICKNESS. My medical expertise says the plague. All I know is that Toto and I are the only ones completely not infected... Ted and Tim are unknown. And the rest are all dying or dead already.
  • Easter Saturday also happened last weekend. If you don't know what this it is, you're missing out. There may or may not be a blog post explaining this wonderful and somewhat still new Carleton tradition.
  • A NEW POLL IS COMING SOON! About a certain social event that Nonberg mentioned earlier.
  • More drunk blogging is coming soon!
  • First Mate Charlie has been stopping by a lot. If you haven't seen him around... I'm sure you will soon.
  • Some informational/presentational posts on topics ranging from "How to Screw With Security" to "How to Drink for 12 hours Successfully."
Long story short, exciting times are here for the blog. So stay tuned for some spring fun!

I'm Pretty Sure There is Nothing Mexican about Abba's "Dancing Queen"

Tonight I went to a magic show. Yes, this was one of the Vegas-like shows provided by the hotel. But i like magic, so I went to it with my mom and sister. It actually was good. Like I said, I enjoy magic. I'm easily amused.

And now its over and I am sitting in the Lobby Bar, one of the 6 bars in the resort. I'm drinking a drink called the honeymoon. I drank a lot of margaritas earlier this week, but then remembered I hate tequila and that there are plenty of other drinks out there. I haven't had as much beer (however now I can say I've actually had a Dos Equis/XX), because I feel that in a tropical environment your supposed to drink fruity hard alcohol drinks. So I've enjoyed my share of honeymoons, blue lagoons, electric lemonades, and this one purple drink that i ordered by accident, but now cannot find it again (but it tasted like jolly ranchers).

So here I am surrounded by families and twenty-somethings socoializing and... get this... singing and dancing to the mexican band that is currently performing such mexican hits such as Man, I feel Like A Woman, Sweet Home Alabama, Womanizer, and now Billie Jean.

So for the past few days I've mostly laid around on the beach or by the pool, listening to some hidden gems on my iPod (when was the last time you listened to what you listened to in Jr. High?) and reading Tom Friedman's The World Is Flat. I've also had my laptop here and I have been Stumbling. Extra time is awesome. I wish I had more of it at Carleton. It's really nice to explore ideas, such as globalization (the topic of Freidman's book), and to explore the internet which is what Stumble Upon is all about.

SIDE NOTE: The term "globalization"comes up as a misspelled word. Isn't that a little crazy?

I guess what I am trying to get at is a deep and important question: What would you do if you had more free time? My mom saids she would work out more. I know I would read more. I love reading books that aren't for school. But i have hard doing it during the school year and more so with my summer job.

The REAL issure though is what is preventing you from doing those things that you wish you could do if you had more time? Because frankly, as college students we have a LOT of free time. Think about how much time we spent in class in high school, where school took up so much of our time. I know college has more work, but lets be real, we have a shit load of free time. Well sorta. Some of us spend our free time playing call of duty, some of us spend a little but more time studying and some of us engage in extra curriculars. But all I am saying is that if I really wanted to, I could read for pleasure if I wanted to. But instead, I choose to spend the last 30 min of my evenings with my roomates either playing Tetris Attack (by the way: Alfredo, don't forget to bring your controller backj from the Chi), watching the daily show, or making my self a pb and j.

Okay now i am just drunkenluy blambbling on. I spent a lot of time trying to correct my errors, but now i just dont carre anymore. A few too many honeymoons. And don't call me a bitch for drinking a girly drink... its delicious!

Is drunk blogging considered taboo? I hope to god not. Or else i'll need an intervention.

Well, here's to mexico and here is to coming back to Northfield!

Over and Out.a
